West Liberty start-up Skilled Day was awarded the Proof of Commercial Relevance (POCR) funds from the state of Iowa.

Skilled Day creates smart scheduling software for skilled nursing facilities–allowing providers, patients, and families to access their schedules. The software helps patients by offering clarity about their schedule which leads to a more productive and enjoyable stay. It reduces waste and removes conflicts for staff. In addition, patients’ families are granted access to the patient agenda–allowing them to become engaged participants in the care of their loved one.

“Great! My husband will know when to visit.”- Patient

“I can look to see when my patient has therapy and that helps us schedule nursing assessments.”- RN

Skilled Day was founded by Jaclyn Hall, Jens Zalzala, and Megan Jensen Zalzala. The software has been successfully tested and used in an area pilot facility since the fall of 2019. Skilled Day will use the funds to expand into other area facilities before a wider rollout.

All three founders presented in front of the Technology Commercialization Committee (TCC) panel at the Iowa Economic Development Authority in Des Moines on January 9, 2020. The board approved their request for funding and awarded a $25,000 loan to Skilled Day for product refinement, marketing, and for tasks related to market entry.
